So what is “Mindfulness”? "Hakuna Matata"

Some of you may be familiar with mindfulness, while others may be new to it. Maybe you’ve heard it before but never really looked into it and never knew what people were referring to. Don’t worry! If that’s your case I will have a brief explanation as to what Mindfulness is :).

We all live in such a busy world, whether you are being occupied with too many to-do lists, or could just relax a little bit more. Mindfulness is being present, not focusing on the past or on the future, as hard as that might be sometimes with regrets, mistakes or experiences in the past even though they do not “define us”. Or worrying about the future. That’s relatively how it may be for most of us. And that’s okay, it’s normal, but mindfulness is being in the here and now. The “Hakuna Matata” of life.

Yes, "Lion King" knew it best! :P

The good news is you can go about this in many ways! Mindfulness can be anything you make it out to be, listening to music, doodling or colouring art therapy, dancing and being present. For mindfulness, we can also refer to mindfulness techniques which this blog is dedicated to. Mindful tips such as finding consciousness and being aware. Accepting your flaws and life situations, and instead trying to view them from a more calm perspective.

~ It's like watching our thoughts come and go, instead of obsessing over them.

Washing them off like a gentle water flow. Sound hippie enough? Haha well, it works. Achieving mindfulness is achieving a non-judgemental state, being focused yet relaxed, as ironic as those two sound. You can’t force mindfulness, you just have to practice it.
You can even start today! If you wash the dishes today try to focus on the act of washing dishes, if you go out for a walk, focus on the beauty of the weather or the leaves of the trees and plants, the vibrant colours that are around you, have imagery, be creative. Go out and explore, do anything and everything that can help use your senses, pay attention to what you “hear”around you, what you can “feel” and “touch”, “taste”, “see” and “visualize”.

It’s as simple as that for starters. You may be skeptical, and that’s fine, I have been too at the beginning. But the more you use it, the more familiar you are and the better you can become. After all what do you have to lose!?

-Have a great day my little mindfulness family πŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ’–πŸ˜Š
